Cuban People Live under Permanent Martial Law, Dissidents Say
Cuban opposition groups informed that in February the political police increased its wave of persecutions against the freedom fighters in Cuba with robbery, arrests and even threat against their lives.
“The Raul Castro regime in Cuba run series of unprecedented vicious attacks, in particular targeting the UNPACU opposition group, appears to launch a new campaign of brutality and hatred towards Cuban freedom fighters”, one dissident, whose identity must not be revealed from safety precautions, said recently in a message to Perth Herald Tribune.”Reality of life of Cuban people can be compared to the Permanent Martial Law.”, he explained.
On February 1st, 2017, UNPACU’s political prisoner Amado Verdecia Díaz was rushed to the hospital in Santiago de Cuba, due to heavy bleeding.
Mr. Amado Verdecia comes from the town of Palmarito de Cauto, in the province of Santiago de Cuba. He has a wife, two children, and four grandchildren. He was sentenced for 5 years and imprisoned in October, 2014.
“Amado was imprisoned for lending his Moskvich-branded car to the UNPACU (Patriotic Union of Cuba) and the Ladies in White. That was the real reason for jailing Amado Verdecia.”, the UNPACU national coordinator and leader José Daniel Ferrer stated in his video message.
The tough conditions in the penitentiaries Mar Verde and Aguadores, where Mr. Verdecia was first, as well as the La Caoba jail in the municipality of Palma Soriano where he is being held now, have significantly deteriorated his health. Mr. Amado Verdecia Díaz has serious problems with hemorrhoids that causes him abundant bleeding.
In prison, Mr. Verdecia does not have the appropriate conditions to be cured. Yet, the hospital returned him to prison immediately, following orders of Raúl Castro’s criminal political police.
