WA Premier can’t reverse the Barnett’s government decision on footbridge
Western Australia’s Premier Mark McGowan admitted that the government can not stop the construction of Bungle Bridge that his predecessor Mr. Barnett ordered to build by foreign, mainly Chinese, companies. Premier promised that the next bridge will be built by Western Australians with Western Australians products.
A bridge will which will connect East Perth with the Burswood peninsular costs 16 million dollars extra and is delayed about a year.
“We can’t change what has already been done, but we’ll do what we can from this point forward to give jobs to local Western Australian workers first.”, Mr. McGowan wrote on his Facebook page.
He added that the Main Roads will now investigate if the steel deck component of the bridge can be built in our State. “We’ll issue a formal request to local manufacturers for quotes to supply and fabricate it”, WA Premier stated. “This footbridge has been delayed for too long. Let’s get it done – with local labour, with local steel suppliers – by the end of the year”, he concluded.
