UK Removes Huwaei From 5G Networks

Published:

Beijing's regime suffers an incredible defeat as its telcos have been banned from the British markets. Communist China will not be able to benefit from the Western free market anymore. Other European countries, NATO members, also gave red light to Huawei, ZTE, and other Bejing firms.

British telecommunications companies will not be able to install Huawei 5G equipment after September 2021. The government has decided as part of a plan to eliminate the Chinese company from high-speed mobile networks. Britain has already ordered the removal of all Huawei equipment from its 5G network by the end of 2027, in line with intelligence allies, including the United States, who argue the company poses security risks. Telecom companies were also banned from purchasing new Huawei 5G kits after the end of the year.

Some lawmakers had worried that companies had set aside equipment to use until the 2027 deadline. Operators, however, reported that they will launch alternative equipment next year, making it "manageable" to eliminate the Chinese company from starting. since 2021. China criticized the move, while Huawei expressed its disappointment at Britain's decision to exclude it from the launch of 5G and the fines foreseen for transgressors: 100,000 pounds. The announcement precedes the debate on new telecommunications legislation in parliament and sets the timeline for the removal of the equipment.

Although the UK set a deadline for UK companies to get rid of Chinese equipment by 2027,
the operators informed that they will launch an alternative
as early as next year completely eliminating Chinese from its networks.

I am setting a clear path for the complete removal of high-risk suppliers from our 5G networks, Digital Minister Oliver Dowden said in a statement. This will be done through new powers to identify and ban telecommunications equipment that poses a threat to our national security.

The government also announced a strategy to diversify the 5G supply chain, which consists of an initial investment of £ 250 million, joint trials with Japanese firm NEC and the creation of new research facilities. British mobile operators BT, Vodafone and Three have all rolled out 5G using Huawei in parts of their cellular network access networks. They have already moved on to alternative providers such as Ericsson and Nokia. The government also set a January 28, 2023 deadline for its previously announced 35 per cent cap for Huawei fiber optic equipment and other gigabit networks.
