The United Nations Security Council has called for a ceasefire in civil war in Yemen. The Security Council members were "seriously concerned" about the increase in violence in the Nehm and Al-Dschauf areas and the impact on the civilian population, an author of an unanimous statement said. The panel referred to the displacement of thousands of people in the past few days.

The violence in the country is preventing a political process for an end to the war. Above all, compliance with the ceasefire in the port city of Hodeida is necessary. In addition, the "intimidation of employees of aid organisations" must be stopped immediately. A safe and unhindered access to the north of the country must be guaranteed for them.

The fighting in the Yemeni civil war had recently intensified. Hundreds of people have been injured or killed in the past week alone. Houthi rebels and tribal leaders reported on Monday. The U.S.-backed Arab military alliance, headed by Saudi Arabia, intensified its air strikes on rebel targets northeast of Sanaa after months of fighting, while the Houthis attacked government areas. Houthi said the military alliance had carried out more than 40 air strikes and destroyed many of their tanks and armed vehicles. The conflicting parties had only agreed on a peace plan in November 2019.
